PEGGY N. ROOT

Tennessee artist, Peggy Root, has spent the last 25 years painting the landscape of the Eastern United States. "My paintings represent some of my ongoing experiments painting ‘en plein air’. My canvases are painted outside on location, usually over the course of several weeks. I am not trying to provide a snapshot of appearances or a demonstration of virtuoso brushwork, but rather a meditation in paint on a particular place in a particular time and what it feels like. I work quickly moving around shapes and color, always striving to make a solid construction that most simply and elegantly states the significance of the scene. Because each year, each season and each day is so different from another, I am content to take what comes and consider it a gift." — Peggy Root
