DUY HUYNH •   CHARLOTTE, NC

Symbolism and surrealism play an essential part in the paintings by Vietnamese born Duy Huynh (yee wun). Drawing inspiration from music, movies, ancient folklore and comic book adventures, he creates his own narratives of the human condition. With difficulties adapting to new surroundings and language, Duy took refuge in the art of comics, cartoons, and graffiti. His first commission was in the third grade. A fellow classmate hired Duy to draw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Payment came in the form of $2 and chocolate milk for a week. Duy received his degree from the University of North Carolina. He has exhibited extensively throughout the Southeastern United States and currently works from his studio in Central North Carolina.
