The mixed media works by Leslie Walker Noell incorporate found natural objects and photography to record fragments of the landscape.
Noell received her BA degree in environmental design from North Carolina State University and her MFA degree from the University of Massachusetts. Her work has been exhibited at the Holter Museum of Art (MT), the Atlanta Arts Center (GA) and the Asheville Art Museum (NC).
Leslie currently works from her studio in Western North Carolina.
“As a designer I compose almost exclusively in spreads or facing pages. This has become a very natural landscape for me, the open horizon of two pages joined and separated by a midline. Duet was assembled from an archive of drawings, prints and photographs that I have made and collected over the years. Trial pairs were pinned together on the walls of my studio and relationships began to take shape. Inspired by the tangled and sleepy paths of half-remembered, half-awake impressions, I search for ways to capture their uncapturable landscape. I map distances and points of reference. My role becomes that of an observer, archaeologist, navigator, recorder and archivist.”
