KATHY TRIPLETT •   WEAVERVILLE, NC

Ceramic artist Kathy Triplett’s hand built wall tiles are studies in surface and texture. The face of each tile is embellished with patterns and designs and embedded with objects that are found in nature or from Triplett’s imagination. In her series of linear wall sculptures she draws her inspiration from tools used in primitive cultures and 19th and 20th Century farm implements.

“The sculptural potential in clay — its fluidity when soft, its acceptance of texture, and its crisp geometric possibilities when leather hard — lend it particularly well to expressing the ambiguous nature between the worlds of plants, animals, and machines.” — Kathy Triplett

Triplett received her BA degree from Agnes Scott College (GA) and studied extensively in Italy and Mexico. Her ceramics have been exhibited at the National Museum of Ceramic Art (MD), Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (DC), Museum of Arts and Design (NY), Mint Museum of Craft + Design (NC), Mississippi Museum of Art, North Carolina Museum of History and San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (TX).

Collections in which her work can be found include the City of Charlotte (NC), Asheville Pack Place Conservancy (NC), North Carolina Artwork for State Buildings, NationsBank (NC), Raleigh Federal Bank, Lowe’s, Inc. (NC), Arkansas Art Center and The Horn Collection of Contemporary Crafts (AR).

Kathy currently works from her studio in Western North Carolina.
