Functional
"A study of variability, my work explores the boundary between the uniformity of industrially made objects and the autographic potentials of the designer/maker. My choice of clay body stems from a personal affinity for its properties as well as its historical references. My work embraces the tradition of terra cotta pots crafted to withstand the rigors of the kitchen. Inspired by delicate early creamware and fine china, the decoration in white slip refers to past efforts to disguise earthenware as porcelain - an effort to raise its cultural and symbolic value. The handmade object is not commonplace in our culture. My functional pottery is not about occasional or special use, but about making every day a special occasion." - Martina Lantin
