Abstract

Daniel Nevins’ new series of paintings are a departure from his usual iconic human forms in a symbolic and stylized landscape. This new work is about energy and emotion. A dark central form unfolds into a plane of infinite potential. Out of this darkness all colors are born. It is the exuberance of life’s longing for expression.

“It is less about thinking and more about feeling. It is less about prose and more about poetry.” — Daniel Nevins

The stylized paintings of Daniel Nevins are a refreshing expression of innocence and romance. His palette is rich and the wooden painting surface adds a textural element to his composition.

“I want to do work that is timeless, work that is not constrained by any particular era. Mythic scenes. The gestures of the figures imply a narrative. The ambiguity is intentional. Each image contains many stories. These stories can change over time. Every interpretation is gold. Stories are important – we live in them. I want my paintings to be a reminder of how thrilling it is simply to be alive, the scent of a thing you thought you had forgotten; like some beguiling paramour, completely understandable and an absolute mystery. Suffice to say, I want you to fall madly in love.” — Daniel Nevins

Nevins received his BFA degree from the University of Florida. In addition to exhibiting his art, Nevins illustrates books and designs compact disc jackets.

Daniel currently works from his studio in North Carolina.

Daniel would like to thank Steven and Katherine Aimone for their massive generosity and support. He would also like to thank Camille Cummings for seeing the flower waiting in the seed. Daniel dedicates these paintings to his mother, Elizabeth.
