Botanical
Whether observing an intimate view of a flower or a cluster of plant life, artist Paul Vincent gave us a portrait we rarely see. He used several techniques in creating his imagery -- one style is true to the photograph, another is a grid and the third a labyrinth. His botanical paintings reflect the sensual nature of flowers. "Working from photographs I have taken of flowers and foliage, I try to use the inherent luminescence and fluidity of watercolors to their greatest effect in creating my botanicals," noted Vincent. The scale of Vincent's compositions forces us to look at a flower in a more intimate way than we might if we were walking through a field. Whether expressing with paint the lyrical qualities of a daylily or the drama of a white peony, Vincent's work commands a second look, and a third. We miss his creativity and spirit. |
